We are physician anesthesiologists who provide professional anesthesia services to your hospital, ambulatory surgical center, GI/endoscopy centers, dental offices, and office based practices.  All of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.  Each and every physician in our group has extensive experience practicing at major academic university hospitals and office based practices, providing safe and effective clinical care to a wide range of patients under general anesthesia and IV sedation. 

Regional Anesthesia (nerve blocks)

Pain control is an important goal for anesthesiologists and surgeons alike.  Some minor procedures can be accomplished simply by having the surgeon inject local anesthesia near the surgical site.  Other surgeries benefit from regional anesthesia techniques that our physicians at NYNJA perform quickly and effectively with the use of ultrasound imaging.  

Regional anesthesia targets the nerves that are responsible for transmitting pain from the surgical site.  By decreasing the amount of pain experienced during and after surgery with various regional anesthesia techniques, patients can enjoy quicker recovery times and higher levels of satisfaction.  

Our NYNJA physicians have mastered regional anesthesia techniques such as:

  • Interscalene Blocks - for shoulder and upper arm surgeries
  • Supraclavicular Blocks - for elbow, forearm, and hand surgeries
  • Infraclavicular Blocks - for elbow, forearm, and hand surgeries
  • Transversus Abdominus Plane (TAP) Block - surgeries involving the lower abdomen such as ventral and inguinal hernias
  • Rectus Sheath Block - for umbilical and ventral hernias
  • Femoral Block - for knee replacements, ACL repairs, and other invasive procedures involving the knee
  • Adductor Canal Block - for knee replacements, ACL repairs, and other invasive procedures involving the knee
  • Popliteal Block - targets sciatic nerve for procedures involving the lower leg, foot, and ankle
  • Ankle Block - often performed for podiatry cases such as bunionectomies and hammertoe corrections

Other times, our NYNJA physicians may suggest neuraxial anesthesia as the preferred technique for your surgery.  This includes:

  • Spinal Anesthesia - local anesthetic medications are injected into the lower back to numb the lower half of the body
  • Epidural Anesthesia - a soft, flexible catheter is inserted into the lower back to continuously deliver local anesthetic medication which helps numb the lower half the body
